Turkish First Lady Delivers Key Talk on Zero Waste and Sustainability with Guterres
First Lady Emine Erdoğan and U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met at the U.N. headquarters in New York to discuss global waste management and sustainable development. Emine Erdoğan, who chairs the U.N. Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste, expressed satisfaction in reconnecting with Guterres and shared the board’s work on waste management and the sustainable development Goals. She also mentioned Türkiye’s collaboration with Azerbaijan for the upcoming U.N. Climate Change Conference in Baku.
Erdoğan informed Guterres about the “Zero Waste” thematic day planned for COP29 and invited him to the board’s third meeting during the conference. She expressed concern over the impact of conflicts on nature, highlighting the devastation caused by wars on ecosystems and natural resources.
After the meeting, Erdoğan shared on social media about their productive discussion on waste management and sustainable development. She also extended an invitation to Guterres to attend the board’s meeting during COP29 in Azerbaijan.
