Turkey’s New Agricultural Strategies: Boosting Productivity and Security

Turkey’s Agriculture and Forestry Minister, Ibrahim Yumaklı, has unveiled new strategies to improve land use, water management, and production planning at the G-20 Agriculture Ministers’ Summit in Brazil.

Starting this year, Turkey will implement planned production practices to increase agricultural productivity by strategically growing crops in optimal locations through water-centered planning. Yumaklı emphasized the importance of resilient and sustainable agricultural systems in the face of climate change, pandemics like COVID-19, and regional conflicts.

He highlighted the crucial role of water in agricultural sustainability and announced Turkey’s focus on effective land use, water management, and production planning as part of the “new normal.” These strategies aim to enhance agricultural productivity, ensure Food Security, and support farmers during harvest periods.

Yumaklı also stressed the need for global collaboration to achieve Zero Hunger, pointing out the severe food insecurity faced by millions, especially in conflict-affected areas like Gaza. He underscored the role of international trade in addressing food shortages and emphasized Turkey’s commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and global efforts to combat climate change.

In conclusion, Yumaklı called for a sustainable future, urging the world to prioritize environmental security, food sufficiency, and climate resilience. He also discussed further cooperation with agricultural ministers from different countries during the summit.
