The Impact of Defeat on Kılıçdaroğlu: Assessing the Cost
The recent election period in Turkey was marked by tension and attempts to manipulate the outcome. National and foreign media, as well as the Gülen Movement, tried to influence the elections in favor of certain parties. However, the Turkish people showed their support for Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and civil politics by turning out in large numbers to vote. Despite the attempts to sway the results, the people advocated for stability, the reconciliation process, and continued government service.
While Erdoğan and civil politics emerged victorious, other parties and groups, such as the Gülenists, some liberal intellectuals, and the CHP, faced defeat. The main issue with the opposition alliance is their failure to learn from past defeats and their focus on conspiracy and candidate selection. This lack of a cohesive political approach hinders cooperation between ruling and opposition parties, leading to ongoing political tension.
The CHP, in particular, has struggled to address Turkey’s main issues and failed to secure significant support despite backing from various factions. The future direction of the party, including the potential leadership role of Mustafa Sarıgül, remains uncertain. Sarıgül’s task is complicated by Kılıçdaroğlu’s continued influence within the CHP. It remains to be seen whether Sarıgül will align himself with his Movement for Change in Turkey or remain within the CHP.
