Preparing for the Digital Renaissance: AI Data Centers in Institutions

Investments in generative artificial intelligence surged in 2023, reaching $25.2 billion, nearly nine times the previous year’s investment and 30 times the amount in 2019, as reported by Stanford University. This rapid growth has led to a substantial increase in demand for data centers to support AI technologies.

To address the impact of AI on data centers, Schneider Electric recently held an international press day discussing applications across various sectors, energy consumption, and sustainability strategies. The report highlighted how generative AI investments accounted for over a quarter of all AI-related private investments in 2023.

As AI technology continues to drive data center power demands, with estimates suggesting a push beyond 18GW by 2028, Schneider Electric is actively working to optimize physical infrastructure to support this growth. This includes transitioning to high-density configurations while ensuring sustainability and energy efficiency.

Schneider Electric has introduced model-based automated sustainability reporting features in its EcoStruxure IT software for data center infrastructure management. This software helps companies optimize energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance operational resilience, leading to up to 22.5% energy savings.

To comply with upcoming regulations such as the European energy efficiency Directive (EED), Schneider Electric’s Green IT Program offers solutions for monitoring and managing energy consumption effectively. By integrating AI technologies into data center operations, companies can achieve sustainable performance and report real-time energy metrics.

Furthermore, partnerships between major corporations like Schneider Electric and NVIDIA have revolutionized data center infrastructure, focusing on edge AI and digital twin technologies. Schneider Electric has introduced retrofit designs for integrating AI clusters into existing data center facilities and specialized build designs for NVIDIA’s accelerated computing clusters.

In a separate development, the iconic Sagrada Familia in Barcelona has partnered with Schneider Electric to implement a modular on-site data center solution to support its extensive construction project and enhance visitor experience. This portable data center solution meets security standards, performance requirements, and can be relocated based on construction demands.

Additionally, Türk Telekom in Turkey is embracing green grid technologies for sustainability, collaborating with global partners to implement new-generation green grid applications in telecommunications. This includes integrating technologies like cloud computing, AI, and data centers while aligning with sustainability goals and contributing to long-term industrial strategies.

In the realm of cryptocurrency, Binance TR has seen significant growth in user engagement and trading volume. With Türkiye having a high rate of cryptocurrency adoption, there is potential for the country to become a top global player in the crypto ecosystem, fostering innovation and economic opportunities in the Web 3.0 space.
