Emine Erdoğan celebrates African cuisine and culture in New York



Emine Erdoğan, the first lady of Türkiye, recently organized a cultural celebration called “Tastes of Africa: A Festival of Culture, Cuisine and Friendship” at the Turkish House in New York.

During the event, Emine Erdoğan emphasized the importance of unity among nations and highlighted Africa’s potential for development. The festival was attended by several first ladies from different countries, who were treated to Moroccan tea and got to explore traditional African handicrafts.

Emine Erdoğan praised Africa’s cultural diversity and natural wealth, pointing out its rich heritage and vibrant population. She shared her experiences of the continent and emphasized the importance of preserving traditional recipes and culinary ties between cultures.

A highlight of the event was the launch of an expanded version of the “African Cuisine” book, featuring over 100 unique recipes from various African regions. Erdoğan discussed the influence of Ottoman culinary techniques on African flavors and stressed the importance of sharing Africa’s culinary heritage with the world.

The first lady also talked about Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening relationships with African nations, citing the establishment of the African Cultural House Association in 2017. The event concluded with Oluremi Tinubu, the first lady of Nigeria, signing the Zero Waste Goodwill Declaration, showing Türkiye’s dedication to global sustainability efforts.
