A recent study has found that nitrogen pollution from food and energy production is causing harm to the environment, air quality, and human health. By implementing nitrogen interventions such as improving fuel combustion, increasing agricultural efficiency, and reducing food waste, we can significantly decrease air pollution, prevent premature deaths, and reduce crop losses. These interventions can also help achieve multiple sustainable development Goals, such as promoting good health, zero hunger, responsible consumption, and protecting life on land. The study shows that by 2050, implementing ambitious nitrogen interventions could reduce global emissions of harmful nitrogen pollutants by 40-52%, leading to a healthier environment and improved quality of life, especially in developing regions like Africa and Asia.
