Foreign Affairs Minister Davutoğlu Discusses Turkey’s Stance with the U.S.

During his visit to the United States, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu discussed the ongoing Syria crisis at George Washington University. He mentioned plans to establish an international platform to address the situation if the United Nations fails to act. The platform aims to support the Syrian public and show solidarity against the violence.

Davutoğlu emphasized the need to prevent further casualties in Syria and criticized the lack of international response to the attacks in Sarajevo during the 1990s. He stressed that Turkey is taking action to create awareness and pressure the Assad regime with international support.

Regarding the proposed international platform, Davutoğlu explained that details such as its name and actions are still under consideration. The priority is to focus on the situation in Syria and unite against the Assad regime.

He also compared Assad to Milosevic and highlighted the need to move past the Cold War era in the region. Davutoğlu emphasized the importance of supporting democratic movements and mentioned his conversations with EU officials and the Indonesian Foreign Minister about the Syria issue.
